October is an important month for IT. The 16th is celebrated, here in Brazil, as Science and Technology Day. And with the technological evolution of the last decades, this date has become even more symbolic and important.

After all, social advancement depends on the advancement of technology. Both go hand in hand, and technology helps to facilitate daily human needs and tasks.

With the covid-19 pandemic, this became much clearer: we could work, socialize, chat, play, and interact virtually, without having to leave home. If this same quarantine happened 20 years ago, we would not have these facilities.

We have prepared special content to give this day its due importance, telling you more about the advance of digital transformation and the need to upgrade companies and startups. Let’s check it out?

The importance of science and technology for social advancement

Technology is something old. But overall, let’s focus on the growth process in the IT sector. For example, did you know that the kick-off for Information Technology was given in the 1940s, during World War II?

In this moment of combat, the United States created the first “computer”, called ENIAC, which was capable of processing complex calculations for military use.

Later, in the 1950s, the first actual computer was created. Of course, it is not a computer like we are used to, and in fact, it took up an entire room. Called UNIVAC-1, it was used in US Census data processing.

Between the 1960s and the 1980s, we had a lot of evolution: in the 1960s the operating system concept was created, opening doors for the creation of the first microcomputer, called Altair, and the first successful computer, named Apple II. Already in the 1980s, we reached the phase of the more affordable personal computer, called PC, with Apple and Microsoft at full blast.

All this evolution has helped society to grow in all aspects. From a war scenario to the need for globalization and unified communication, science and technology have guided us to what we are today: a connected, instantaneous world.

From the 2000s to the present day, websites, social networks, cryptocurrencies, and online consumption have intensified. And the trend is that in the coming years, physical shopping spaces will become smaller and smaller. Surprising, isn’t it?

A real quick advance

From the 1940s to the present day, only 80 years have passed. In history, 80 years is not a large period – quite the contrary. In this sense, we can see how much we have evolved, can’t we?

Without science and technology, we simply would not have a world like today’s and would face a host of social difficulties.

Therefore, October 16 is a very important date, which NEEDS to be remembered fondly and with due importance.
